Welcome to Calculator Value. If you have ever finished a CrossFit session with you body covered in sweat, heart beating fast, and heavy breathing, one question might pop into your head:
"How many calories did this CrossFit session burn?"
That's where our CrossFit Calorie Calculator makes things easier for you. It helps you estimate your calorie burn during a sweaty and intense CrossFit session, based on real-world physiological factors.
Let's begin the journey!

CrossFit is a high-intensity training program with constantly varied functional movements that mix strength training, gymnastics, cardio, running, rowing, biking, and more, all designed to improve physical fitness. These constantly varied workouts are known as WODs, which stands for Workout of the Day.
A CrossFit session can contain a wide range of activities, but the following are some of them:
It hits the body hard, challenges your metabolism and conditioning, engages almost all major muscle groups, and burns a lot of calories in a short time.
You might be wondering how the CrossFit calorie burn is actually estimated. We use an ACSM formula. if you don’t know ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) is the world's largest sports medicine and exercise science organization.
The following shows an ACSM-style formula used to estimate calories per minute:
kcal per minute = MET × 3.5 × weight(kg) / 200Then multiply the kcal/min by the time in minutes:
Total calories = kcal/min × total minutesSo the formula requires your body weight, WOD duration, and MET value to calculate your total calories burned.
Let's look at a real-world example to show you the steps involved in the calculation:
First, take your body weight e.g., 70 kg, WOD duration e.g., 20 minutes, and the WOD intensity e.g., Typical mixed WODs (8 MET) based on the above table.
Next, convert the hours into minutes because the formula uses time in minutes, if your time is in hours:
Time (minutes) = Hours × 60Now, let's apply the ACSM formula to estimate the calories burned per minute:
kcal per minute = MET × 3.5 × weight(kg) / 200kcal/min = 8 × 3.5 × 70 / 200kcal/min = 9.8 kcal/minLastly, multiply the calories per minute by the total time in minutes:
Total calories = 9.8 kcal/min × 20 minutesTotal calories = 196 kcalHence, a 70 kg person burns around 196 kcal during a Typical mixed WODs (8 METs).
In a CrossFit workout session, calories burned depend on various factors such as workout intensity, duration, and body weight. The following table shows the average calorie-burning rate:
| CrossFit Workout Type | Est. Calories Burned Per Hour |
|---|---|
| Light CrossFit session | 300 to 450 calories |
| Typical CrossFit metcon | 400 to 700 calories |
| High intensity or competition WOD | 700 to 900 calories (or more for heavier athletes) |
CrossFit is considered an excellent choice that not only improves overall fitness but also works very well for weight loss because it combines cardio, strength training, and muscle-building movements that burn a lot of calories.
