Welcome to our Push Up Calorie Calculator, the online tool that simplifies the process of calculating calories burned from push ups. Push ups seem like a simple exercise, but most people don’t realize they burn more energy than they think.

No matter whether your purpose is cardio health, weight loss, or overall body strengthening, understanding how many calories you burn during push ups can be encouraging and useful.

What is Push-Up Calorie Burn?

In simple words, it means the amount of energy a person uses while performing push ups, and it is expressed as calories (kcal). Push ups seem like a normal strength exercise, but they increase your heart rate and produce moderate to high metabolic demand, so the body uses more oxygen and burns calories.

There are many factors that affect the intensity of calories burn, such as:

  • Push up intensity: how many reps you do per minute.
  • Duration: how much time you spend each day doing push ups.
  • Overall body weight: a heavier person burns more calories.
  • Rest intervals: keeping rest intervals short makes the workout more metabolically demanding.

What is a Push Up Calorie Calculator?

There is no need to do all the calculations by hand. Our push up calorie burned calculator can do it for you. It automates the process of estimating calories burned for push up exercise, it accounts for many factors such as:

  • Body Weight — Your body weight affects how much energy you burn.
  • Duration — How long you do push ups.
  • Push-up repetitions — The number of total push ups.
  • Push-up cadence (reps/min) — Your average pace in reps per minute.
  • Intensity — Choose your push up intensity, or fill the custom MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) value.
  • Calories Burned — Shows calculated calories burned in kcal unit.

How Push-Up Calories Are Calculated — Example

Our calculator uses a MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) method which is a standard in sports. MET is a unit used to estimate the amount of energy a body burns while doing a physical activity, relative to the energy used at rest.

Calculator uses the MET values:

  • Moderate push-ups = 3.8 MET
  • Vigorous push-ups = 8.0 MET
  • Custom MET = your choice (1–20)

Core Formula:

Calories per minute = (MET × 3.5 × body weight in kg) / 200

Our calculator works smartly, meaning it can automatically convert units and is flexible in both directions.

A real-world example

If you want to estimate your push up exercise calories burned, we will walk through a step by step real world example:

  • Step 1: Determine your body weight, cadence (reps/min), total number of reps, and intensity.

For example:

Reps: 100
Cadence: 20 reps/min
Weight: 75 kg
Intensity: Vigorous (8.0 MET)

  • Step 2: Let's calculate the duration, by dividing total reps by cadence (reps/min):

Duration = 100 ÷ 20 = 5 minutes

  • Step 3: Next, calculate calories per minute by multiplying the intensity (MET 8.0) × 3.5 × your body weight (75 kg), and then divide the result by 200:

Calories per minute = (8.0 × 3.5 × 75) / 200 = 10.5 kcal/min

  • Step 4: Now get the total calories by multiplying the duration with calories per minute:

Total calories = 10.5 x 5 = 52.5 kcal

So, we calculated that a person doing 100 reps at a cadence of 20 reps/min burned around 50 to 55 calories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories does 1 minute of push ups burn?

Generally speaking, a person doing push ups at moderate intensity burns around 4 to 5 calories per minute. Let's evaluate it:

  • Body weight: 70 kg
  • Time: 1 minute
  • Intensity: Moderate (3.8 MET)

Let's compute:

Calories per minute = (3.8 × 3.5 × 70) / 200

Calories per minute = 4.655 kcal/min

Total calories = 4.655 × 1 = 4.655

How many calories does 1 push-up burn?

Typically, it depends on body weight and the intensity of push ups, but on average 1 push up can burn around 0.29 to 0.48 calories.

How many calories do 100 push-ups burn?

It depends on many factors such as reps per minute, weight, and duration that affect your calorie burn rate, but normally 100 push ups can burn 30 to 60 calories.
